Hollow Fairytale : from ‘The Carnival’ a circus opera

by Chloe Charody (2008)

Work Overview

'Hollow Fairytale' features in Charody's circus opera 'The Carnival': act 1, scene 3.

As a child, Lucy (the opera's heroine) dreamt her life would be a magical fairytale - full of wonder, excitement and fantastic adventures where she could become anything she wished. However, the horrors of war that ravished her home destroyed all hopes of such a fairytale. In this aria, Lucy sings of her sadness and longs for a way out of the horrible life she now faces.
