Another cup : small jazz ensemble
by Louise Denson (1998)
This is a fast-paced and joyful work. It features a metric modulation and change of rhythmic feel from Afro-Cuban 6/8 to fast salsa in a 2:3 clave. The harmonic structure utilises the Coltrane tri-tonic matrix and the octatonic scale.
Instrumentation: Afro-Cuban jazz ensemble: drumkit, congas, bass, piano, trumpet, soprano saxophone.
Duration: 7 min.
Difficulty: Advanced — Knowledge of Afro-Cuban 6/8 and salsa rhythm required. Difficult chord changes for soloing.
