Work Overview

A couragious piece to write, even if it was never my idea. At the time, there was hostility to the concept of blacks and whites making music together with sensitivity of encroaching on the blacks sacred cultural territory and the inevitable "it can't be done" that came from the traditionalists. All this was mainly because it had never been tried before. I went ahead all the same as I needed the money and needed to accept all commissions that came my way.

I did feel that the invitation was very special especially as I knew very little about aboriginal music or australian folk music. Surprisingly, the Rush TV series came along 3 years later. Be open-minded, this never worked from fixed positions and came from the result of my survival strategy over all these years.

It seems to have worked, I'm still here!
