Work Overview
This piece was inspired by the Allen Noble Sanctuary at Aireys
Inlet which is a small swamp. Press the clusters down firmly,
even when soft. Note the repeated quavers depicting the pecking
of the birds, the short piu mosso section of a wild duck
fluttering in the water, the molto accel. (bar 14) of birds
taking off in flight, the allargando themes (bars 15 - 16) of the
graceful swans swimming, the clusters in bars 20 and 21 depicting
splashes in the water forming rings, the melodic fragment (bar
29) of birds scampering across the mud flats and the theme at bar
14 is repeated at the end but should be left to dye away: the
memory of the calm
beautiful sight will last forever…
