Work Overview

This surrealistic piece explores the wind blowing through the swirling gum trees producing an eerie sighing sound which builds up and subsides along with the progression of the storm. Imagine a string orchestra playing
highly emotive lyrical parts with the addition of timpani for the thunder rumbles (eg. bars 1 - 2, left hand) and the claps of thunder with lightening (eg., sfz bars 19, 30, 33). This piece needs careful pedal touches, legato pedalling and pedal points where the thunder is pitted against the sighing swirling gum trees for dramatic effect.
