This energetic chart has been inspired by the fun techniques made famous by the many iconic big bands of the Swing Era. Based on a standard blues progression, the piece features an exciting mix of New Orleans, Swing and Rock'n'Roll.
This crowd-pleaser chart is lots of fun for the band to blow on. There is plenty of scope for musicians to play with plenty of personality, with wailing riffs, shakes, plunger mutes and trombone slides.
The main feature solo is for Trumpet, but other members of the band are welcome to burst out their chops over the Concert F Blues progression.
Instrumentation: Big band: 2 alto saxophones, 2 tenor saxophones, baritone saxophone, 4 trumpets in B flat, 3 tenor trombones, bass trombone, piano, guitar (optional), vibraphone (optional), double or electric bass, drums.
Duration: 5 min.
Dedication note: Dedicated to ConneXion Big Band
Finalist in the Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra Composition Contest 2013.
