Work

Sonatina for viola and piano : viola with piano

by Dulcie Holland (1932)

Work Overview

The Sonatina is in three movements. The first is in a fairly traditional sonata form in the key of F major. The second is marked Andante and in the relative minor key, d minor, while the third begins in a very dance-like fashion. This opening is followed by a lyrical, flowing middle section and the 'A' section returns finishing on an A major chord. Bowing written into the score by Holland has been retained and Rosemary Curtin has generously contributed additional bowing after an intense perusal of the score.
