Judith Clingan wanted a short choral piece for her chamber
ensemble, Gaudeamus, to perform on their Bicentennial tour. I
used a short poem that I had written for my daughter years
My 10-month-old was crying; to amuse her, I held her up to the mirror for the first time. My mother's photo was on the mantelpiece in front of the mirror. She had died only weeks after my daughter was born. Three generations looked at each other across the years.
Instrumentation: SSA choir, harpsichord, classical guitar, 2 recorders.
Duration: 6 min.
Commission note: Commissioned by Judith Clingan.. Commissioned for concert performances on tour and broadcasts associated with the Bicentenary of Australia celebrations in 1988.
- In the form/style of: Motets
