Score & Part

Pastoral fantasy : for bassoon and piano / David Hush.

Library shelf no. 788.58/HUS 2 [Available for loan]

Work Overview

The composition draws on the English pastoral tradition as exemplified by Vaughan Williams. The harmonies were inspired by Eastern Europe.

The first section seeks to bring out the lyrical qualities of the bassoon to their best advantage.

The middle section introduces a faster tempo and ushers in a new melody in the bassoon; the two instruments then exchange ideas. A short interlude for the piano leads to a cadenza played by the bassoon.

The final section is a written-out repeat of the first section.
