Work Overview

Inspired by a party in the garden of Springfield House at the foot of the Adelaide Hills. As guests wandered about the beautiful grounds in the late afternoon, the shadows of trees lengthened across the lawn and the foothills began to darken. There is a rather restless middle section, rising to a climax, before the return of the main theme. Finally, peace returns, and the change to the major key (in the coda) tells us to look at the sky, where a few stars have come out, as the piano part mounts to its last high, silvery chord.
