Work Overview

This one movement work is designed to contrast small ensemble (concertante) activity with the larger ensemble, as well as involving all players as one ensemble (tutti). Its generally light and rhythmic qualities, characteristic of many dance forms, suggest a sense of joyousness relieved briefly by a more delicate, meditative phase and later by a cadenza-like section for the soloists before a compressed recapitulation and coda.
