Songs of death & guitars : for soprano, cello & guitar / Michael Knopf.
Library shelf no. 783.66547/KNO 2 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
Songs of Death & Guitars are Flamenco pieces in
character if not in form.
The theme of the ultimate truth of death is a feature of this
music which arose from the oppression of Spanish gypsies in
Andalusia. The three voices of soprano, cello and guitar all aim
to explore the ironic beauty that is the chiascuro-like reality
of living and dying; but which is light and which is dark?
This is a demanding work for ensemble which uses contemporary and
flamenco music practices.
