Score & Part

Freefall : percussion duet (marimba, tenor and snare drum) / Becky Llewellyn.

Library shelf no. 785.6812/LLE 1 [Available for loan]

Work Overview

The inspiration for this gradually accelerating percussion piece was a friend describing a tandem freefall from an airplane. Commissened by ACME New Music Co in Adelaide, I thought of these two athletic percussionists, Vanessa Tomlinson and Catherine Oates, playing as if tied together on the same marimba with snare drum and tom toms nearby. The piece explores what the equivalent feeling of falling if the sky might be. It ends, predictably, with acceleration to a loud thud.
