Sanctus : SS(S)AATTBB choir
by Clare Maclean (2008)
Library shelf no. 782.3232/MAC 4 [Not for loan]
This Sanctus is part of the Osanna mass, which incorporates the plainchants for Mass number IX in the Liber Usualis. In this movement, the plainchant appears initially in a slow canon at the interval of a minor second, and, as it sets the text in the original and less familiar Hebrew, is an expression of the darkness that is the excess of light of God's holiness. The glory of the second line of the text is expressed through 'bells' ringing in rhythmic abandon.
Instrumentation: SS(S)AATTBB choir.
Duration: 5 min.
- In the form/style of: Spiritual and Sacred Music
