This piece is a setting of a Shakespeare Sonnet and references some of early music styles, such as setting a word as it sounds (eg "compounds strange" or "ever the same"). The song itself is a question about whether one should present as a person has done before, or to create new material. The result is a mixture of the two ideas - conservative and creative, as the poet wrestles with the concept.
