Work Overview
This was composed during my neo-classical period (roughly 2000-2003), although it is not without modern influences. The first movement begins in a tranquil mood, but becomes quite dramatic in the central section. The second movement is a light-hearted bourree, in which the cello utilizes each of its registers. The third movement begins with piano and cello each playing individually, featuring multiple-stopping in the cello, followed by a joyous fugue. Another unaccompanied cello section in multiple stops draws together elements from the slow introduction and the fugue.
