Psalm 23 : SATB and organ / music by Brett M McKern.
Library shelf no. 782.5525/MCK 9 [Not for loan]
Work Overview
This work was written especially
for The Cathedral Singers for their tour of Wangaratta and
surrounds, June 2007. It was premiered at High Mass at Holy
Trinity Cathedral, Wangaratta on 10 June 2007. The work was
inspired by an undergraduate student of the composer's, who
thought that almost all composers who write for voices at some
stage had set this text. This inspired the present composer to
write his first setting of this text! The text is the usual form
of the Psalm from the King James translation of the Bible,
without a Gloria Patri. Musically, the work is in the form of a
rondo with the main melody returning in one form or other after
each intervening section. It is set in the usual pastoral F Major
with a triple time metre, but includes modulations to keys as
remote as D flat minor.
