The festive title, The Fabulous Rojo Rocket, references the colourful Avoca Beach cantina, 'Rojo Rocket'.

Although the work is not programmatic, the music is celebratory and full of life, alluding to Mexican popular culture, mariachi bands and traditional Central American music.

The Fabulous Rojo Rocket takes its cue from Copland's El Salon Mexico. The occasional Stravinskyian rhythmic asymmetry gives the music an energetic forward motion.

Originally titled: The Celebrations of Marguarita. Re-written in 2013.
