by Simon Reade (2015)
Score SampleView a sample of the score of this work
These songs have been recast for clarinet and piano and were given a memorable first performance by Luca Ferrini and Joze Kotar at the Tasmanian Composers Festival - March 4, 2016.
The four songs are all quite recent, two from my set of Michael Dransfield songs for alto voice and piano, two instrumental songs written more recently and originally for my own instrument, the 'cello.
The cycle is written 'hommage à Robert Schumann' in tribute to that great composer of both Lieder as well as wind chamber music.
Instrumentation: Clarinet in B flat, piano.
Duration: 13 min.
Contents note: I. In Edinburgh (from 'Three songs of Michael Dransfield') -- II. Elegos I -- III. To the colour brown (from 'Three songs of Michael Dransfield') -- IV. Lullaby for Callum (from Sonatina 8).
Dedication note: Dedicated to Luca Ferrini
Commission note: Commissioned by the Tasmanian Composers Festival
