Work Overview

This is the second work of mine to be premiered by Melbourne Windpower, the first being Clashing Auras. The word colours in the title refers to the sound produced by pairs of instruments. Each pair plays mostly in unison throughout and the pairing remains the same: it is as if new instruments have been built. In the score the name of each 'new' instrument is also a combination of the two original names, for instance FLOBOE (flute and oboe).

Gemini, the star sign consisting of twins, alludes not only to the pairing of instruments but also to the birth in April of our twins, Juliet and Samantha.
