This is the third of three pieces which now form a set. Drama therefore serves as a finale and on occasions harks back to textures heard in the first piece (Moving Between). In that piece there are different types of texture and sections which act as bridges between them. Here there is little in the way of transitional material, but starker contrasts are produced by opposites such as slow and fast speeds, symmetrical and asymmetrical harmonies, porous and thick textures and sound and noise.
I am grateful to the Melbourne Composers League for programming all three pieces over several years and to the Silo String Quartet for performing them.
Instrumentation: 2 violins, viola, cello.
Duration: 7 min.
