This piece is influenced by Schoenberg and considers atonality in relation to the note C. The difficulty of the piece is mastering the accidentals. The phrasing draws on the Javanese theory of aesthetics padhang-ulihan, as espoused by Bapak Sri Hastanto, who was head of Sekolah Tinggi Seni Indonesia, Surakarta, when I studied there for one year (1991-1992) assisted by the Australian and Indonesian governments.
Duration: 4 min.
Difficulty: Advanced — lots of accidentals
Dedication note: Dedicated to the composer's father, Jake Rutten.
