Work Overview
This work is in a listenable contemporary style. It is series of etudes on Australian 'Top End country' topics: the Dry season, the Traditional Owner, Mango Tango - harkening to a Mindil Beach market in Darwin, Oenpelli - a bush community, and Gagudju (Kakadu). It uses bi-tones, and the preface notes show clearly how to play and read them. Used by Melbourne Conservatorium/University (3rd and 4th year) students for recitals. Also featured in AMEB higher grades listings for guitar. It oddly borrows a title from Delius (which I liked because his north country is so different to ours). The bi-tones are the best way I can 'catch' the Australian bush of the top end and feel of the top end: including their slightly out of tune nature, their timbral quality and even the manner of executing bi-tones.
