Work Overview
Icebergs come in many shapes and sizes exhibiting smooth and
jagged contours in a mixture of white and blue palettes. These
variations are inspired by iceberg silhouettes. The jagged
staccato clusters played in odd
meters are offset by smooth five note appoggiaturas and glissandi
which suggest slippery surfaces. The piece exhibits a youthful
exuberance as it moves suddenly between registers of the toy
piano and contrasting sections. The end of the work slowly melts
away as the staccato and syncopated variations give way to a
sparse texture with long phrases.
