Volta : from 'Suite for Piano' / John Spence.
Library shelf no. 786.2/SPE 4 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
Volta is part of a collection of pieces called Suite for Piano. Volta is inspired by renaissance up-tempo dance movements. It features lots of syncopated rhythms and constant triadic shifts well outside traditional diatonic harmony. However, it never loses a sense of a tonal centre. It is full of melodic phrases with simple accompaniment style. The piece is suitable for an HSC performance and programme notes are provided.
