This work resulted from a private commission as a memorial for the commissioner's partner who died from complications resulting from AIDS (the text is drawn from the poem "Sympathy" by Thoreau and was chosen by the commissioner who remained anonymous). The work features the three performers (voice, 'cello and piano) equally throughout and is unsurprisingly intense expressive and elegaic in mood.
