Library shelf no. 786.21956/SPI 1 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
This neo-classic work draws heavily on the example of J. S. Bach, in that it combines improvised and fugal writing (of the type found in his fantasies and fugues and toccatas) to form a large ternary shape. The central four-part fugue is very strict in its layout and is based on a sujecr drawn from the work's opening motif. The reprise of the opening section is stated a tone higher than originally, but through an extended and more florid version of the original transition section eventually finds its way back to the 'correct' key of E.
