This was the prize-winning entry in a national competition for Australian Composers offered by the Wangaratta Arts Festival, Victoria in 1962. It is dedicated to the the Hungarian-born Perth pianist Alice Carrard who gave its first performance in an ABC broadcast recital the following year.
