Work Overview

This piece was inspired by the Benedictine monastery at New Norcia, about 130 km north of Perth. It celebrates the juxtaposition of the Spanish-styled architecture within the dry Australian bush; whitewashed walls in the sun, the tolling of bells amid the calling of native birds. The music uses both sacred and secular texts, encompassing the spirituality of both the Benedictine tradition and the spirit of the Australian landscape.
