Sutra of pearls : for solo flute / Tony Wheeler.
Library shelf no. 788.32/WHE 1 [Not for loan]
Work Overview
This piece draws its inspiration from a number of sources: traditional Chinese music; techniques of the Japanese shakuhachi; modal writing; twelve tone serialism and a touch of blues. The moderato section is to be played with great fluency, and with due attention to the articulation, harmonics, accents and rhythmic accuracy. A sutra is a Buddhist scripture or text, often chanted in the temple as a kind of prayer. Genuine pearls, though naturally occuring, are rare, precious and things of great beauty. Sutras also contain pearls of wisdom.
