Perception de la ligne droite : SATB choir with chamber ensemble
by Lawrence Whiffin (1986)
Also known as: Perception of the straight line
Score SampleView a sample of the score of this work
The musical illustration of a nonsense text, Perception de la ligne droite has a neo-classical flavour, deliberately adopting a Stravinsky-like tonality not really corresponding to the nature of the text; this contradiction is in itself bizarre, it does, however, provide relatively easy rhythms and vocal lines for the choir.
Instrumentation: SATB choir, flute/piccolo, clarinet, keyboard I (piano and continuo: synthesizer, harpsichord or piano), keyboard II (synthesizer, harpsichord or piano), double bass.
Duration: 16 min.
An allegro or allegretto march-like baroque tempo pervades the score with an aleatoric interruption at the mid-way point.
- In the form/style of: Aleatoric music
