Piece for 17 tone row : computer music
by Caroline Wilkins (1990)
The structure of the piece is like a mechanism that gradually winds up and then ends itself by unwinding. Within the given 17 tone system I wanted to investigate the resonance of close - lying pitches and their overlapping or inteference; in contrast to this I examined short staccato sounds with a larger pitch distance between them, arranged in a playful formation. The whole piece is based on divisions of 9 to 8.
Instrumentation: Computer synthesiser or 2 Yamaha Disc pianos.
Duration: 4 min.
First performance: 1991. Alte Feuerwache, Festival of Cologne Society for New Music, Cologne
