AMEB Series 17 Piano: Celebrating Australian composition past and present

The Australian Music Examinations Board is proud to announce the launch of Series 17 Piano - a full suite of grade books and recording & handbooks (Preliminary to Grade 8) available as additional repertoire options and education resources for Australians studying piano.

Beginning in 2013, Emeritus Professor David Lockett began compiling a collection of repertoire that would lead a new generation of students into the joys of musical engagement. He started with thousands of pieces, then whittled it down to a shortlist of 350 pieces, eventually selecting 128 pieces to be featured across nine volumes, including 25 works by 17 Australian composers.

Emeritus Professor David Lockett discusses the 2-year project of creating AMEB 's Series 17 Piano.

AMEB is thrilled to be publishing many Australian compositions for the first time, as well as some long-term favourites. Australian composers featured in Series 17 include: Elena Kats-Chernin, Ross Edwards, Larry Sitsky, Graeme Koehne, Kerin Bailey, Sonny Chua, Elissa Milne, Amanda Handel, Jenny Trynes, Jocelyn Kotchie, Brett McKern, Miriam Hyde, Margaret Sutherland, Dulcie Holland, Roy Agnew, and more.

Series 17 Grade Books feature repertoire options in a wide variety of styles, from German baroque to Australian contemporary.

Recordings & Handbooks feature professional recordings by Australian pianists Caroline Almonte and Peter de Jager, with background information and analyses of each work in the corresponding Grade Book.

Series 17 Piano publications and all AMEB publications are available from AMEB's Online Shop or from AMEB preferred retailers.
