Event Details

Experience the magic of Sydney Opera House’s Utzon Room as Australia Piano Quartet perform works by Mozart, Strauss and new work combining classical music and advances in biomedical technology by Rebecca Chan and Dr. Jordan Nguyen.

The five senses and the power of creative insight are explored in this concert, which opens with Mozart’s masterful Piano Quartet in G minor. From the ominous opening motif, evoking the drama of Don Giovanni, to the effervescent Rondo Finale, this is Mozart at his most expressive and sensitive. In Whispering Pectoriloquy, a ground-breaking collaboration is presented for the first time to Opera House audiences. APQ violinist and medical doctor, Rebecca Chan navigates uncharted musical waters with renowned inventor, speaker and media personality, Jordan Nguyen. Together APQ and Dr. Nguyen create a new composition allowing individuals with disabilities to express their creativity through music and sound.

Using an eye-tracking device to trigger a newly-developed digital instrument, Jess Irwin, a renowned photographer with cerebral palsy, joins APQ as a guest artist, expressing her inner musicality and sensibilities through sound, in response to the ensemble’s performance of this very special new work.

Richard Strauss’ Piano Quartet displays youthful ardour in its majestic Brahmsian form, while seducing the listener with its ambience of Der Rosenkavalier and old-world chivalry. Featuring searing melodic lines and virtuosic brilliance in all four instruments, this concert will excite all the senses while provoking new pathways of thinking and innovation.
