The 2020 ACMF National Songwriting Competition is now open!
Every year, students from schools across Australia are invited to put pen to paper and enter their original song in ACMF’s annual National Songwriting Competition. Winners receive prize-money which can be allocated towards musical equipment or tuition. Entries for the competition close on August 3.
For 2020, the competition has had some changes – the competition is now open to young songwriters from year 1 to year 12.
The competition is free to enter – however, we strongly urge you to consider donating to the ACMF to enable us to continue our work bringing music education programs to disadvantaged children throughout Australia.
Our annual National Songwriting Competition is a nationwide initiative designed to encourage creativity and self-expression through songwriting, and is now in its 18th year.
"Songwriting is a highly creative process. We want kids to free their imagination and engage with learning in a fun way" - Don Spencer, Founder & CEO.
Please note - prizes for the 2020 competition are still under negotiation and may change at short notice.

“We have to encourage creativity in children. The current education system inhibits creativity – how else will children dream and blossom, if not through creativity? Songwriting is a vital form of self-expression. Songwriting has stopped children self-harming. It has allowed them to speak about abuse and trauma. It has allowed them to express love and forgiveness. It can increase literacy. It can promote understanding. This competition encourages every child, in every Australian state and territory to explore and create in such a positive way. It’s very important to the work of the ACMF, and me in particular.” Don Spencer, ACMF CEO and Founder.
