Attention Adventurous Composers:

WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2021!

While we realize that there are many unknowns about whether the global pandemic will have subsided by next year, we are optimistically moving ahead with plans for Composing in the Wilderness 2021.

Many of our 2020 composers accepted our offer to move their participation to 2021, so we anticipate only a limited number of available spots for the coming year, but please consider applying anyway! We want to make sure that everyone has a chance to be considered, and also so we have a good list of people on the waiting list in case anyone has to withdraw.

Come with us and explore the inspiring wilderness of Alaska's backcountry, compose music about it, and have it premiered by top performers.

If you are a COMPOSER, love WILDERNESS, and want to take advantage of this one-of-a-kind CREATIVE ADVENTURE, then Composing in the Wilderness if for you! You'll join a group of nine composers and go into the epic backcountry of Denali National Park for an immersive and inspirational experience. Then you'll compose a new chamber work and have it performed by top musicians. Take a look at our website to see what our previous years have been like, and then use our simple application form to apply.

Applications will be accepted through November 1st, and selected composers will be notified by no later than November 15th.

Composing in the Wilderness has a strong history of embracing diversity, and we encourage applications from composers of all ages, nationalities, and styles.

Composing in the Wilderness is presented by the FAIRBANKS SUMMER ARTS FESTIVAL in partnership with ALASKA GEOGRAPHIC, the NATIONAL PARK SERVICE, and the U.S FOREST SERVICE.
