Product details

This exciting new band was formed mid '96 by Rick Robertson (saxophones) and Phil Slater (trumpet, flugelhorn) following a successful European tour with d.i.g. The concept was to put six of Australia's finest young musicians together, build a repertoire of original material and then enjoy playing the hell out of it. With Alex Hewetson on bass the music never fails to have a strong funky bottom end, Simon Barker's melodic drumming adds a free flowing jazz element as does the patient exploratory piano playing of Matt McMahon. Special guest Nick McBride adds colour to every piece with his tasteful percussion. Phil Slater plays some wonderful flugelhorn and trumpet solos and really gets to stretch out with full support from the band and Robertson adds the weight of experience with his eloquent soprano and intense tenor saxophone. Baecastuff (pronounced Backa stuff) is a unique ensemble fusing elements as diverse as funk, African, Latin and jazz.
