Work Overview
Sometime in 2010, the German-based Satori Quartet commissioned me to write a new piece that would use, besides the four guitars, tuned bottles. Some of the quartet members played, a decade earlier, another piece of mine (Three Days With The Eastern Emperor) with the Youth Guitar Orchestra of Baden-Württemberg (JGO). That too used tuned bottles and they were keen to recreate the sound with their quartet.
The bottles give the piece an eery sound which underscores the story from a dream I had had prior to writing this piece. In the dream, I was taken to a strange place by some weird but friendly entities and I was shown around. Then the dream abruptly ended leaving me to want to know more about this place. The dream was so vivid that I couldn't stop thinking about it for a couple of days. The five movements reflect this journey.
