Hardware : string quartet no. 2 / Romano Crivici.

Work Overview

Hardware was a significant core, almost defining work in the repertoire of the Elektra String Quartet when it was an active touring ensemble during the 1990's and early part of the new millenium. Though we often performed Hardware amplified with effects and using sound loops, it worked very well as an acoustic piece. It also gave scope to improvising on those occasions we were so moved. After a wispy, transparent opening introduction, the work goes into a fairly brutal, high energy groove that does not abate until the work itself fades into a dissolving conclusion. What more can I say.
