Work Overview
'The Phoenix' follows the tale of the famous mythological Firebird whom every 1000 years ignites itself, fiercely burning itself and it's nest. From the ashes arises a new Phoenix, a symbol of strength, power and immortality.
Charody composed 'The Phoenix' (caprice) in 2010 as a stand alone work for violinist Sonja Schebeck. The piece has since gone on to feature as the third movement in Charody's concerto for violin, fire and orchestra titled 'The Phoenix' and in Charody's circus opera 'The Carnival' (act 1, scene 6).
The work first debuted on London's West End and has since gone on to be performed throughout Australia, the UK & Europe.
In May 2012 'The Phoenix' was performed by Sonja Schebeck at the Musikverein, Vienna and in 2014 the work was turned into a ballet for The Dutch national Ballet by choreographer Remi Wortmeyer.
