I chose emergence for the title of this piece because it suggests so many meanings, and the music is about many things. These include my emergence as a composer, the emergence of my identity from a confused history, the emergence of Poland as a great nation once again, and emergence of a partial understanding of my place in the world...

Accidentals apply throughout the bar unless cancelled by another accidental, and only in the octave in which they occur. All trills are to the semi-tone above the written note, and should be played as fast as possible. Tremolo on the viola should be unmeasured, and played as fast as possible.
