Work Overview

A short work for handbell ensemble and percussion ensemble.

Waves is a musical evocation of the waters of the Pacific Ocean that lie off the coast of Sydney, New South Wales. The use of an undulating melodic line, and an additive rhythm in 13/8 that produces an irregular downbeat, creates a sensation of uncertainty amid constant variety in an attempt to mirror the same uncertainty and constant variety that is inherent in the various wave formations that appear on the surface of the ocean itself.
