My favourite Australian art song repertoire
Posted by Australian Music Centre on 15 July, 2013
The AMC asked leading practitioners to select their favourite Australian art song repertoire, to provide delegates to the 2013 International Conference of Vocal Teachers (Brisbane 2013) with an introduction to this rich and diverse landscape.
Australian women composers are the unsung heros of our past. At a time when noone around the world had any interest in or knowledge of the Australian music scene and most men in Australia could not care less, remarkable women achieved remarkable things. Just listen how good this song cycle is, neither conservative or revolutionary, but imaginative and revealing a profound understanding of Wright's wonderful words.
Roland Peelman
Very good settings of major Australian poet Judith Wright. An effectively contrasted set/cycle of moderate to advanced musical and technical challenge.
