Robert Iolini is a composer and media artist. His work transcends what traditionally defines a musical composition. Field recordings, spoken words, songs, electroacoustic textures, improvised and detailed scored performances are crafted into original works that act as vehicles to express a strong sense of social awareness. Iolini's unique talent lies in his ability to create musical works by utilising non-musical disciplines such as documentary, investigative journalism, sound ecology and storyboarding. Iolini is a prolific artist producing his own works as well as collaborating on numerous multimedia and theatre projects.
Commissioners include the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Danish National Radio, Netherlands Program Service, Big hArt Inc, Radio Free Berlin and Byron Bay Council. His piece Hong Kong: City in Between was a prize-winner in the Soundscapes (be) for(e) 2000 festival in Amsterdam. His electroacoustic and radiophonic works are broadcast regularly around the world.
