Event Details

Tonight’s performance by Ten Part Invention also celebrates leader John Pochee’s 70th Birthday. One of the key figures in the development of modern Australian jazz since the early 1960s, Pochee’s passion for the music remains undiminished and his reputation as a dynamic, swinging drummer remains firmly established. At present he is most active in Ten Part Invention and the Space Cadets but long time jazz enthusiasts also remember the Last Straw, the Engine Room as well as his playing with the Bernie McGann Trio and the Judy Bailey Quartet to list just the best known. His status as a significant jazz musician was recognised when he won the Hall of Fame Bell Award in 2006.
