Event Details

Experience the magic of Sydney Opera House’s Utzon Room as Australia Piano Quartet perform works by Strauss, Schubert and a new commission by Paul Dean, contemplating mankind’s relationship with his environment through music and poetry.

Sustainability and climate change are crucial to modern life, and this performance pays homage to our environment through a joyful yet contemplative musical celebration. A tailor-made piano quartet arrangement of Strauss’ sumptuous lied Morgen sets the scene for a program that showcases the talents of leading Australian tenor Andrew Goodwin and young virtuoso double bassist Muhamed Mehmedbasic, an APQ emerging artist. In his new work for APQ, renowned Australian composer Paul Dean sets poems of John Donne, Rodney Hall and Judith Wright to music, producing a dramatic and atmospheric song cycle for tenor and piano quartet in Generations. Schubert is the undisputed master of song and conveys an entire world of emotions in his Lieder, which in turn inspire and infuse his beloved Trout Quintet, a work that sparkles with Viennese charm and melodic genius.
