Australia Quartet: Inspirations
- Date: Saturday, 1 June 2013, 5pm
- Venue: The Independent Theatre — 269 Miller St, North Sydney, NSW
- Tickets: Tickets can be purchased online
Featuring Tamara Anna Cislowska (piano), Veronique Serret (violin) and ANAM alumni James Wannan (viola) and Thomas Rann (cello), the Australia Quartet champions contemporary Australian composers and breathes new life into rarely-performed masterpieces while also presenting the best-loved works of the piano quartet canon.
In this program, the quartet introduce a newly arranged work by Elena Kats-Chernin, Winter, inspired by her earlier large-scale work The Seasons. Mahler's youthful passion for the piano quartet is displayed in his early work in a minor, while Schnittke's Klavierquartett was inspired by a Scherzo fragment, which the master never completed.
Suk's Piano Quartet in a minor is a rarely heard gem, full of reverence for his master Dvořák, but imbued with a uniquely Czech salon atmosphere.
Featured non-Australian music: Dvorak, Suk, Mahler
