Event Details

Internationally acclaimed cellist Li-Wei joins the ASQ for quintets by Boccherini and Glazunov; one the epitome of Classical elegance, the other a passionate work which wears its Russian heart on its sleeve.

The seventh quartet of Dmitri Shostakovich is no less eloquent for its apparent brevity. Written ‘in memorium’ to the composer’s first wife Nina, this extraordinary piece crystallises a world of emotion into an incredibly concise structure.

Australian composer Graeme Koehne’s joyous Shaker Dances was inspired by the idealistic philosophies of the American Shakers and the ecstatic dances with which they celebrated the union of physical and spiritual worlds.

Featured non-Australian music: Boccerini, Shostakovich, Glazunov
