Event Details

austraLYSIS is possibly Australia’s most important ensemble working in the area of exploring the possibilities of acoustic / electronic / computer improvisation while working with both complex compositions and simpler motifs.

After the group’s successful overseas tour in 2010, including performances in Canada, Denmark, Britain and USA the group makes its first Sydney performance of 2011 at the Sound Lounge. Shortly after this performance leader Roger Dean leaves for Canada to perform a MultiPiano show in Montreal.

Currently austraLYSIS is having a series of its earliest recordings, originally on vinyl, re-released by UK and other labels, as well as continuing new issues. Roger Dean, founder and leader of the group, is one of the few Australians to appear on an album in the new Penguin ‘History of Jazz in 1001 CDs’.

Though the austraLYSIS work with material that is often dense and poses tremendous challenges to both soloist and ensemble, pushing the parameters of music, performance art and multimedia, the music has much colour, a lightness and is quite often imbued with humour and joy.

An exciting contemporary Australian group that needs to be experienced live to be best appreciated.

Roger Dean (piano, computer) Sandy Evans (saxophones) Greg White (computer)
