Event Details
Masterful organ trio line-up performing exciting original music and interpretations of standards. Sydney pianist/organist, Steve Barry, and Danish expat guitarist, Kristian Borring, co-leads this exciting trio also joined by Perth drummer Danny Susnjar. Hailed by Loudmouth Magazine as “one of Australia’s most inventive and accomplished composer/improvisers”, Barry’s work oscillates frequently between contemporary jazz, musical theatre, free improvisation and contemporary chamber & art music. He juxtaposes a lyrical melodicism with distinctly modern harmonic sensibility that is recently heard on his acclaimed album “In the Waves” (2023). Borring, earned his reputation in London as "one of the most tasteful and accomplished guitarists on the scene" (Bebop Spoken Here), and has frequently performed in clubs and at festivals throughout the UK and Europe. He was recently cited as “a serious post-bop wizard” in Vintage Guitars Magazine (USA) upon releasing his latest album “Earth Matters” (2022) with the group Number Junky. Both Barry and Borring are prolific composers exploring new boundaries while being thoroughly steeped in the jazz tradition. Between them they have worked with wealth of names including Will Vinson, Eric Harland, Fabian Almazan, Jamie Oehlers, Archie Shepp, Jasper Høiby, Jo Lawry, Jay Rodriquez, Joanna Wallfisch and John Hollenbeck.
Featured non-Australian music: Kristian Borring — Cirkus Dannebrog, Equilibrium, Five to Six
